What is Called by Name?

Over the last two years, our diocese has hosted a diocesan-wide Called by Name campaign to identify faithful teens and young men who love their faith and may be open to the priesthood. This initiative has been very fruitful, allowing the Vocations Office to connect with over 300 exceptional young men, which has lead to increased participation in the Vocation Office’s events, and more applications to seminary. In light of the great fruit of this initiative, our diocese is hosting Called By Name again in 2026.

Like last year, parishioners will be invited to submit the names of young men they believe may be open to a call to the priesthood. Men whose names are submitted will receive a letter of encouragement from Bishop da Cunha, resources from the Vocation Team, and an invitation to a special “St. Andrew Dinner” with Bishop da Cunha and fellow honorees in December.

Late Sep – Parishes receive Called by Name box

• This box will include pew cards, along with hard copies of the documents needed to prepare for and implement Called By Name at your parish.

Sep 26-27 – Announcement Weekend

• Include Bishop da Cunha’s letter to the faithful in the bulletin and all parish communications (email, Flocknote, social media, etc.)
• Read pulpit announcement at all Masses to announce Called By Name.
• Ensure volunteers or parish staff will place cards in pews at all Masses on October 3-4.

Oct 3-4 Called by Name Sunday

• Ensure pew cards are placed in pews at every Mass.
• In the homily, preach about the blessings and joys of the priesthood.
• At the end of the homily, invite parishioners to submit names, either online or via the pew card.
• Include special petitions in the Prayers of the Faithful.
• Include bulletin blurb in the bulletin. You can also use the bulletin graphics linked on this page to help promote Called By Name. 

You will receive a return envelope in the mail with your Called By Name pew cards. If for some reason that is replaced, please mail filled out pew cards to:
